Aston Villa can't be taken for fools this time as Crystal Palace want new Evann Guessand agreement

Aston Villa are in talks with Crystal Palace over Evann Guessand once more.

The Villans may look to offload the 25-year-old once more, just 12 months on from what has so far been a failed move to B6.

Unai Emery's side actually pipped the Eagles to sign the Ivorian last summer, signing the forward on a long-term deal from French side Nice for £26million.

None of that £26m has yet to be repaid at Villa Park, as the right-winger only managed to score twice in 21 matches before his loan move to Selhurst Park in January.

Palace turned down the option to make his stay permanent earlier this summer, but now want him back in south London already,

Crystal Palace paid a reported £2m in loan fees to sign Guessand in the winter window, while their option to buy stood at £28m.

In typical Villa fashion, the forward actually had some success when he did play for the Eagles, helping them to win the Europa Conference League.

He was edged out of the side towards the back end of last season, but chairman Steve Parish clearly thinks of the Ivory Coast international as a key target, given a managerial change that has taken place at the club.

According to an update from BBC Sport this Tuesday, Villa are in talks with Palace over a loan deal for Guessand.

The issue with this is that, yes, Guessand's wages would most likely be covered, but his contract would run down another year.

If he were to have a poor season, his market value would decrease even further, and that's why the Villans need to give themselves some assurances if they are to sanction this deal.

If Palace do want to sign him on loan again, an obligation to buy should be inserted in the deal, as Villa cannot afford to let their Premier League rivals get a financial edge on them, like they seem to be trying to do.

A straight loan would benefit Crystal Palace more than Emery's side in almost every situation, but Roberto Olabe can assure that Villa do get some good out of the deal if a new agreement can be found.

Crystal Palace have just announced the signing of Dwight McNeil, who has joined the Eagles in a swap deal that has seen Brennan Johnson head the opposite way and join Everton.

Johnson was one of the reasons why Guessand couldn't get in the team in the final few games of the season, and so McNeil poses the same threat, if not more.

That would especially be the case if Villa sanctioned a straight loan deal that included no obligation to buy.
