Unai Emery decides on quitting Aston Villa for Manchester United job
Aston Villa's Unai Emery has unsurprisingly been one of the names linked with the Manchester United job.
The Spaniard has proven himself as one of the best pound-for-pound managers in the Premier League over the last few years.
Now, with Michael Carrick's job under threat at Old Trafford, links to Emery were always going to pop up.
The Englishman has failed to impress this season, achieving a win rate of just 14 per cent in the opening seven games of 2026-27.
And a points-per-game total of just one. Form that over a 38-game season could see United relegated.
As Carrick's future continues to be up in the air, Emery's thoughts over a possible switch to Manchester are already being shared.
Would Unai Emery be attracted to the Manchester United job?
Prising Emery away from Aston Villa will be an incredibly difficult feat for any interested party.
That is according to Telegraph journalist John Percy, who says a switch to Man United is a "non-starter."
The reporter has shared that Emery has an "unbreakable” relationship with controlling owner Nassef Sawiris.
Additionally, the Spaniard is feeling "incredibly positive" about this new era labelled as "Aston Villa 2.0."
Like Carrick, Emery has had a tough start to the season, but the 54-year-old does have credit in the bank, unlike the Man United boss.
Villa have not done much better than the Red Devils, only achieving one more point than the Old Trafford outfit under Carrick this season, and a slightly better 28 per cent win rate.
But Emery's side have won five of their last six games in all competitions, which does translate to an 83 per cent winning rate.
Proving he has the ability to turn things around, with Carrick yet to show he can follow suit.
Emery already addressing early-season Aston Villa weakness
Emery's positivity at Villa is not a feeling that should be dismissed, despite the poor Premier League standings.
As per FotMob, Villa have been very poor in front of goal, having the lowest shots on target per match of 3.1 in the top flight.
Additionally, the Villans are 16th for xG created, but over recent weeks those issues have been addressed.
Over the last six games, Villa have averaged 7.5 shots on target per game, while their xG has been higher than their opposition in five of those fixtures.
It is clear why Manchester United would want to look towards the Spaniard, amid Carrick's tumultuous tenure this campaign.
When things are going wrong, he has the ability to address those issues and turn the ship around, as he has done so often at Villa Park.
The stats are evident: Emery is a top manager, and as Percy shares, he is extremely likely to remain in B6.
