Aston Villa fans may have to selfishly hope that Spain's success continues at this year's World Cup so that no opportunity for Unai Emery to coach his national team emerges.

The Villa boss led his side to a first European trophy since the 80's last season, wrapping his hands around the Europa League trophy for a record fifth time.

Not only that, but the Villans have qualified for the UEFA Champions League once more, as plans are in place to improve the squad ahead of next season.

Emery was loosely linked to the Chelsea job when Liam Rosenior was sacked, but the appointment of Xabi Alonso quickly diminished any exit fears.

However, you would think that any coach would dream of managing their national team one day, especially for someone like Emery, who has won lots at club level already.

The Villa boss has been asked about the potential of one day coaching Spain, and he hasn't exactly ruled it out as a possibility.

If Emery were to leave this week, he would still go down in history as one of the best managers to have taken the reins at Villa Park.

NSWE and Villa supporters will be hopeful of the 54-year-old staying for many years to come, as the future in B6 looks bright with him at the helm.

However, nothing in football is promised.

Spain will be hoping to win their second ever World Cup in North America this summer and will look to harness momentum from their EURO 2024 triumph.

With that said, if Luis de la Fuente were to fail to deliver that, Spain could look to appoint a new manager, as Emery has spoken in an interview this week about the possibility of being that man.

Speaking to Ok Diario, Emery said: "Well, look, you go where you are wanted. Perhaps one day the idea of becoming Spain’s national team manager will appeal to me.

"But so far, I have not had the feeling that I’m close to that."

It wasn't long ago Aston Villa thought about sacking Emery

Emery was never going to admit that he wanted the Spain job, especially when things have been going so well with the national team, and his own team.

It would have only caused a stir had he been suggestive, but he's been smart in not closing the door on the chance,

At the start of last season, a winless run to begin with saw NSWE mull over their options as sacking Emery was one of them.

They will be thankful that they didn't make that rash decision, but it once again shows how fast things can change in this game.
