It is certainly a boost to welcome the Switzerland international into a matchday squad for the first time.
There will have been tentative hopes that he may even get a start in claret and blue.
That hasn't happened, but he may well come off the bench at some stage.
Villa know exactly what they're getting from the 20-year-old after his seven goals and six assists for Freiburg last season.
In the Bundesliga he created 20 chances and completed 33 dribbles throughout the campaign.
He also chipped in with 102 defensive actions and 179 duel wins, which Emery will certainly be impressed by.
It is frustrating to see him miss out from the start, but he will certainly get a warm reception if he does come on.
