Mathilde Harviken hadn't been enjoying the smoothest of starts as an Aston Villa Women's player.

The 24-year-old signed from Italian giants Juventus in the summer, taking her first steps into English football as such.

Harviken had been with Juventus since January last year, and prior to that had exclusively played in her native Norway.

A 44-cap Norwegian international, the central defender arrived in the West Midlands as a highly-rated talent.

However, she'd struggled to hit the ground running under the now former Aston Villa Women's coach Natalia Arroyo.

But under interim boss Brian Sorensen, Harviken looks primed to really kickstart her Villains career.

Where Mathilde Harviken led all players in Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace

Five games into the Women's Super League (WSL) season, and Aston Villa sit third from bottom in 12th with no wins.

Harviken has started and played every single minute of those five games, but hasn't found things easy.

In a recent 4-0 defeat to Tottenham, she completed just 78 per cent of her passes, made zero tackles and won none of her four aerial duels - per FotMob.

The following WSL game after that was against Crystal Palace on Sunday, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

It was here, however, where Harviken may just have recorded her big sliding doors performance in a Villains shirt, and one she can really build on.

No player on the pitch completed more passes than Harviken's 84, which was from 86 pass attempts meaning she recorded a 98 per cent completion rate.

On top of that, she also took 93 touches, was accurate with three of her five long ball attempts and made five recoveries.

Harviken made three clearances, one block, one tackle and won her only ground duel too, in what was a dominant all-round display.

But what do her underlying numbers from her WSL campaign so far suggest about where she must put an emphasis on improving fast?

Harviken still has some obvious areas to address

Crystal Palace was Harviken's first real standout performance in an Aston Villa shirt, and it surely won't be her last.

However, complacency is the enemy of improvement, and the Norwegian can't get too comfortable after one big display.

Per FotMob, she ranks in the bottom 20 percentile of all WSL central defenders for her 41.7 per cent aerial duels won rate this season.

In addition to that, she also places in the lowest 25 per cent for her 53.3 per cent duels won and the bottom 2.5 per cent for her single tackle won.

Harviken's lowest-ranking numbers are pretty much exclusively in the duels and general physical side of the game.

For a centre-back in WSL, that will need to change for Harviken if she's going to ensure her Villa story is a successful one.
