Why Aston Villa ace John McGinn was left 'visibly furious' in Scotland's defeat vs Switzerland

John McGinn endured a frustrating evening for Scotland on Tuesday.

The Aston Villa skipper was involved as the Tartan Army were beaten 3-0 by Switzerland in the Nations League at Hampden Park.

Johan Manzambi was involved for the Swiss, who saw Ricardo Rodriguez, Nico Elvedi, and Zeki Amdouni net against Sebastien Pocognoli's side.

Scotland's task was made all the more difficult by an early red card for Jack Hendry, and they are now facing a battle to stay in Group B of the Nations League having taken one point from two games.

It was a frustrating outing for McGinn, whose game was hampered by the red card for Hendry and the tactical adjustment that occurred as a result.

It was a really tough outing for McGinn, whose form has been a bit patchy for Villa so far this season as well.

And it was noted how McGinn grew angrier with referee Nenad Minakovic as the game went on.

The 31-year-old felt the Serbian referee made a series of questionable calls, and struggled to hide his frustration.

The Scottish Herald scored McGinn a 5/10 and wrote: "Forced to drop into midfield three after Scotland were reduced in numbers. His attacking threat was curtailed by the change as he adopted a less threatening and glamorous role in the midfield battle.

"Left visibly furious by a number of decisions with his anger reciprocated by those in the stands at Hampden. By his own sky-high standards, one os his quieter and less influential performances for Scotland."

The Scotsman also went with a 5/10 and added: "Started the game by sitting on Switzerland's deep-lying playmaker Jashari but had to be more withdrawn after Hendry's red card. A thankless night in midfield, Moves level with Jim Leighton on 91 caps - joint third in the standings."

The Scottish Sun went the same score, and wrote: "Did his best to get side up the field by buying fouls. Grew increasingly infuriated with referee, who refused to book anyone. Touch let him down on more than one occasion."

The Edinburgh News went with a 4/10 and added: "Moved level with Jim Leighton on 91 caps for his country. Tasked with keeping Swiss playmaker Jashari quiet but came off second best. Failed to have much influence in attack."
