Victor Lindelof labelled 'weak' away from Aston Villa as Swedish media call him 'crazy'

Victor Lindelof has not had a good start to the season for Aston Villa.

The centre-back has featured in the majority of games for the Villans so far this campaign, but has been a big part of a leaky defence.

He ended last season on top form, even playing a role in defensive midfield, where he looked like a high-IQ footballer.

However, Lindelof has not impressed again for Unai Emery, as things may not be too different away from Villa Park either.

The defender was given a call-up ahead of Sweden's Nations League fixtures during the international break.

Lindelof featured in Sweden's first game of the competition against Romania on Friday, but the Aston Villa man hasn't received the best reviews of his performance from local media.

Sweden won the contest 2-1, with Lindelof playing the full 90 minutes.

The Aston Villa man won zero per cent of his ground duels, and only won one of three aerial duels.

He made just four defensive contributions, while misplacing four long balls and 11 passes in total.

He had the most touches in the game with 93, but it seems as though his lack of urgency on the ball was an issue.

Fotbollskanalen gave Lindelof a 2/5 rating, and wrote: "The captain checked himself away at the 1-1 goal when Dennis Man lifted the ball over him. Then lost the ensuing duel.

"Varying quality in the passing game. Weak second [45]."

Expressen gave Lindelof a 2/5 rating too, and wrote: "Unhappy at the Romanians' equaliser. Otherwise, a perfectly okay effort."

Interestingly, Sweden's players noticed that the footballs were not properly inflated shortly after kick-off, as Lindelof fronted the complaints from his nation.

Goteborgs-Posten journalist Robert Laul reported: "Lindelof has looked like he's crazy about this."

Lindelof will soon be fighting for his place at Villa, and he needs to be proving his worth away from B6.

Lindelof has started in all five of Villa's opening Premier League matches.

He has the second-lowest average FotMob score out of all the club's centre-backs at 5.96, conceding an average of 1.84 xG per 90 while on the pitch.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis is now getting up to speed at Bodymoor Heath, as the break will only give the former Southampton man more time to impress Emery.

Tyrone Mings has continued his form for the Villans, while Pau Torres will also be back from injury soon.

Sweden still have three more games over the break, so Lindelof best hope he can return to top form soon.
