Aston Villa endured more frustration in the Premier League over the weekend.

The Villans played out a 2-2 draw against Brentford at Villa Park on Sunday in a back-and-forth contest.

Yehor Yarmoluk put the visitors into a 10th-minute lead, but goals from Nicolas Jackson and John McGinn had Unai Emery's men ahead.

However, Kristoffer Ajer levelled things up once again, as Keith Andrews' side returned to London with a point.

Consequently, Villa are still languishing down in 16th place having won just one of their six Premier League games so far.

Here, Villa News looks at three questions to have emerged from Villa Park over the past week.

Are the errors killing Aston Villa?

It was another disappointing display defensively from Villa.

The experienced Tyrone Mings got caught out in possession for Brentford's first, and that is three errors leading to goals in the Premier League from Villa this season now.

The second did not go down as an error as such, but the ease with which Ajer shimmied his way into a shooting position was a huge disappointment.

Villa simply have to improve defensively and cut out the lapses if they are to build some much-needed momentum in the Premier League.

Does Emery have it right in midfield?

Central midfield has been a bit of a concern for Villa.

A combination of injuries and player sales meant that an overhaul of the engine room was required in the summer.

At the minute, a combination of Boubacar Kamara and Joao Gomes is the preferred partnership Emery is going for.

But, are the duo offering enough control and defensive protection in the double pivot?

Villa are conceding too many goals and too many chances, and it might be that Emery has to figure out a way to get more dynamism in the centre of the park.

Does Emery need more pragmatism?

Far be it from us to question the wisdom of Emery, one of Villa's most popular and successful managers.

But there are genuine concerns about the way Villa are managing games.

Before the international break, Villa did beat Tottenham but after cruising to a three-goal lead they let Spurs back into it before seeing it out 3-2.

Against Brentford too, they went ahead 2-1 before surrendering the lead and giving up all three points.

Does Emery need to do better with his substitutions and tactical decisions to help Villa protect leads when they get them?
