Supercomputer predicts outcome of Newcastle United vs Aston Villa in Premier League
Aston Villa are set for a trip to face Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Villans head to St James' Park with an unfamiliar feeling behind them.
Unai Emery's side secured a massively rare win in the north east in their last Premier League meeting.
Goals from Emi Buendia and Ollie Watkins made all the difference that day, but things are so different for both sides now.
Villa are coming off the back of a 6-0 win over Fenerbahce in the Champions League, while the Magpies fell to a 4-1 defeat to Coventry City on Monday.
The B6 outfit will be hoping to follow that up with three points as we assess how a supercomputer predicts an upcoming clash with Newcastle.
What is predicted to happen in Newcastle United vs Aston Villa?
Both clubs faced plenty of change over the summer and are facing mixed results as a result.
Matthias Jaissle has come in and started by going five games unbeaten, but has lost two of his last three, conceding nine in the process.
Villa are in a better vein of form having won three of their last four.
Their last Premier League outing was a 2-2 draw against Brentford and it certainly raised some concerns.
That appears to have been picked up on by the Opta Analyst supercomputer.
They back Newcastle United to win on Saturday, giving them a 40.9 per cent likelihood to do exactly that.
Villa have been afforded a chance of just 32.4 per cent, while a draw comes in at a probability of 26.7.
It appears the Villans are the underdogs and that isn't a shock based on their recent record at St James' Park.
Why have Aston Villa struggled so much away to Newcastle?
Emery has had a largely terrible record away to the Magpies.
His first encounter was a 5-1 defeat on the opening day of the 2023/24 campaign.
That was followed the next year by a 3-0 loss as Jhon Duran was sent off on Boxing Day.
The record was finally flipped last season in a 2-0 Villa win.
The away side only clocked up 39 per cent possession and 1.16 expected goals compared to Newcastle's 61 per cent and 2.18.
It was the taking of chances that made a difference that day as Buendia found the net with an effort worth just 0.05xG.
Should the supercomputer be correct, it would be a true return to form in this fixture for the claret and blue outfit.
It would be a disappointingly familiar feeling for Emery, but it is something he will be keen to change.
