Bryan King believes Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling would be interested in a move to Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout claims the 29-year-old needs regular first-team football to make an impression on interim England manager Lee Carsely.

Aston Villa have held talks with Chelsea over a move for Sterling, who has been told that he can leave Stamford Bridge (via The Times, 22 August).

And King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - claims the move would be beneficial for both Villa and Sterling.

"Things have certainly materialised at Chelsea around him," King said.

"This would be a very interesting signing for Aston Villa. A player of his experience, that could only be a good thing for the club.

"Sterling would definitely entertain the move, Villa are playing in the UEFA Champions League. A brand-new England manager has come in, he needs to impress and how can he do that without playing?

"I think he would accept the move. Villa are a big club, they're as big as Chelsea."

Raheem Sterling to quit Chelsea and sign for Aston Villa?

It looks as if Sterling does not have a future at Stamford Bridge. If he doesn't secure a move away from the club, he risks spending the next few months on the sidelines in West London.

As a result, the winger will be desperate to secure a transfer, and Villa Park certainly wouldn't be a bad destination for the former Manchester City star.

Unai Emery's side are playing in the Champions League this season. Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Therefore, some might even argue this would be an upgrade for Sterling.

Unai Emery will be keen for Aston Villa to sign some high-profile players.

The finances involved could make a deal complicated, but if an agreement can be struck, it could be a big move for Villa.
