Aston Villa had their equaliser against Wolves ruled out as Morgan Rogers was deemed to have impeded Nelson Semedo in the build up, the Premier League stated.

Donyell Malen thought he had equalised for the Villans in the 54th minute at Molineux on Saturday (1 February), but the assistant referee raised his flag, with VAR upholding the decision.

While Rogers didn't touch the ball, he was in an offside position and was adjudged to have interfered with play by hindering Semedo's ability to challenge for the ball.

The Premier League said in its statement on X (1 February): "The referee's call of no goal due to an offside offence is checked and confirmed by VAR – with Rogers in an offside position and deemed to be impacting the ability of Semedo to play or challenge for the ball."

Aston Villa to feel hard done by after Morgan Rogers ruled offside v Wolves

Vitor Pereira's team got a massive three points in their 2-0 win over their neighbours as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Matheus Cunha got on the scoresheet.

The Villa Park faithful will feel hard done by as Malen's equaliser was chalked off for the slightest of reasons.

While the Lions midfielder is indeed in an offside position, it's debatable whether Semedo could have done anything regarding the goal.

Aston Villa have continued to showcase the lack of depth in their squad as they try to juggle multiple competitions.

While the Villans were impressive as they beat Celtic 4-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday (29 January), the players again seem exhausted upon returning to domestic action.

Unai Emery's team surprised many when they made it to the top four in the English top flight last season, but a similar feat in the current campaign is going to be challenging.

Ollie Watkins was supposed to take the reins at the Lions after Jhon Duran's transfer to Saudi Arabia, but the Englishman struggled to make an impact at Molineux.

The fans hope the squad can quickly bounce back from the disappointment against Wolves ahead of the Tottenham clash in the FA Cup on 9 February.
