Morgan Rogers is hoping to beat Jude Bellingham to a starting position for England at the World Cup.

Rodgers started over Bellingham in the 2-0 win over Serbia on 13 November, however, he was benched for the Real Madrid star as the Three Lions secured the same result against Albania.

While Rogers has impressed away from Aston Villa, his rival for the role is one of football's biggest stars, and it will be a tough ask.

However, the Villa Park star certainly has a chance and will give Thomas Tuchel a decision to make ahead of the tournament in the United States.

Jude Bellingham under pressure as Morgan Rodgers verdict shared

Stephen Warnock believes that it was obvious that Bellingham is under pressure from Rogers with his performance against Albania.

The former Birmingham City man put in a brilliant display, and clearly was trying to force himself into the starting line-up over the Villans ace.

Warnock recognised this, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live on 16 November (19:57 pm), he said: “I felt Jude Bellingham played like a player who was playing for his place with pressure on his shoulders in a position he hasn’t played in before in an England shirt.

“There was a feeling that Bellingham would be a starter for England for years to come. Suddenly, the emergence of Morgan Rogers and the way he fitted into the style that Thomas Tuchel wants has thrown up a lot of questions.

“We just saw a couple moments of magic - he finds passes which other players can’t find.”

How can Aston Villa star Rodgers get ahead of Bellingham for England?

Rogers needs to keep performing for Villa and then impress Tuchel when he gets the chance to start over his rival for the position.

The 23-year-old has notched one goal and two assists in the Premier League so far, while Bellingham has two goals and one assist in La Liga.

  • Bellingham has 46 caps for the national team, with six goals in those matches
  • Rogers has 11 caps, with one goal so far

It is shaping up to be a really close battle for the role in the starting team at the competition, and there is every chance that Rogers could win out.

It may well be a ploy from Tuchel to ensure that Bellingham gets himself in top form for the tournament, but the Villa star will be a key asset either way.

If he is not on from the start, then he will be a big weapon for the former Chelsea manager from the bench, if he is needed.
