Aston Villa beat Fulham 3-1 at Villa Park for their second consecutive win on Sunday, as Ollie Watkins finally ended his goal drought.

Watkins has been in poor form for Villa this season, as the striker has been the centre of attention in conversations held about the Villans.

Gary Lineker cracks Micah Richards up with Watkins FPL remark

Watkins hasn't been the only underperformer for Villa this term, as Morgan Rogers has faced criticism.

Former England striker Gary Lineker knows all about what it takes to score goals at the highest level, as he spoke about Watkins' form on the 'This is Football' podcast.

"Ollie Watkins got his goal, and I suspect he'll be worth now considering putting into fantasy (Fantasy Premier League) teams again because he's had a bit of a bad run.

"I mean, most strikers are streaky, and once they get one after a bad spell, they do start scoring goals.

  • Watkins has played 8 games in all competitions this season
  • His goal against Fulham was his first of the season
  • Last season, Watkins scored 17 in all competitions

"Harry's (producer) shaking his head, he's saying 'he's too expensive'," to which former Villa man Micah Richards laughed.

The England striker seemed poised for a strong start to the season, with favourable fixtures on paper and momentum from a consistent campaign the year before.

With Watkins finding the back of the net, he could be coming into form at the perfect time for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa need a scoring Watkins for vital fixtures

Villa's consecutive wins come after no victories in their opening six fixtures.

The wins against Fulham and Bologna may be looked back on as the turning point in Villa's season this year, as Emery's men have an important two fixtures before the October international break.

Villa are preparing for Feyenoord in the Champions League, before they take on Burnley at Villa Park in the Premier League.

Watkins carries the responsibility of leading Villa’s attack, not just by scoring, but also by creating chances.

Now is the ideal time for him to step up and consistently deliver for his team.
