Noel Egan is surprised that Aston Villa have allowed Kaine Kesler Hayden to join Preston North End on a season-long loan.

The ex-FIFA official and lifetime Villa supporter believes this indicates that exit-linked defender Matty Cash (Gianluca di Marzio, 19 June) is likely to remain with the club.

Hayden's temporary switch to Preston was confirmed via Villa's official website on Wednesday (7 August).

And Egan - speaking exclusively to Villa News - claims supporters have high hopes for the young prospect.

"It was a surprise to see that Villa allowed Hayden to leave on loan," Egan said.

"He will be playing his football with Preston North End in the Championship this season. I think all Villa supporters see a really exciting prospect in the player.

"However, we do have three right-backs. Therefore, if Matty Cash is going to stay, then that would explain why Hayden has been sent on loan once again."

This will be Hayden's fifth loan switch.

Therefore, Villa supporters have had plenty of opportunities to catch a glimpse of Hayden's performances, those performances have just been elsewhere.

With the right-back now 21, Unai Emery will need to decide on where Hayden's long-term future lies.

If the youngster is going to continue to be sent out on loan after loan, then a permanent transfer might be the best solution for all parties involved.

However, if Cash is to be sold at some point in the near future, an opportunity could arise for Hayden to finally make a name for himself in the West Midlands.
