Kaine Kesler-Hayden future surely lies away from Aston Villa after new loan agreed

Published on

Kaine Kesler-Hayden is heading out on loan from Aston Villa to Preston North End, which is a familiar-sounding headline.

As confirmed by the club (AVFC.co.uk, 7 August), the 21-year-old has made his way to Preston. He's a talented, fascinating player to watch with an interesting style as a full-back - and plenty of clubs know that.

The reason why plenty of clubs know that is because he's been out on loan several times before. Yes, he made three Premier League appearances last season (FBref), but you have to wonder if recalling him was the right move.

Kesler-Hayden's final frontier with Aston Villa?

Villa fans will know that Kesler-Hayden has been here, there and everywhere. He's spent time with Swindon, MK Dons, Huddersfield, Plymouth, and now Preston.

When you're a teenager, it makes sense if you're trying to build yourself up and gain some experience. At 21, however, in the modern football age, this is the time when you want to be shooting for the first team.

The irony is that this pattern coincides with a real rise to prominence for Aston Villa. They're focusing on Champions League football and they need to be focusing on strong, established players. There were rumblings that he was set for a more senior role, but that never really came to fruition.

He felt destined to be a cover option for as long as he was in the first team. That isn't necessarily a problem with a club like Villa, but it does raise some eyebrows that he's been put back out on loan again.

Who knows, maybe this is just another stop en-route to a triumphant return.

But you can't help but feel now that the writing is on the wall in terms of his Villa future after another loan deal was signed off on.
