Howard Webb should call meetings immediately after latest on Aston Villa controversy - Expert

Keith Hackett has called on Howard Webb to take action after findings from Aston Villa's defeat against Arsenal.

It's been another slow start to the season for Unai Emery and the Villans.

A 4-0 thrashing at Brighton was followed by that 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, before a goalless draw against Hull.

Thankfully, Villa started the Champions League with a 3-2 win at Club Brugge on Tuesday.

But, things could have been worst at Villa Park.

The Premier League Key Match Incident Panel has voted that Ian Maatsen should have been penalised for a challenge on Bruno Guimarães.

What did KMI say about Aston Villa controversy?

The five-person panel all voted that a penalty should have been awarded to Arsenal in added time.

As well as that, they believed that VAR should have intervened and Maatsen given a second yellow card and sent off.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Keith Hackett believes that Webb needs to ask questions of his panel's credentials.

The ex-FIFA official states that Webb needs to meet those on the panel in person over incidents like this, and advice can then follow to the officials who make the calls on the day.

I really would like to know who the members of the KMI panel are," Hackett said. "Have they any officiating experience?

"Have they sat and passed and examination on the Laws of the game?

"Clearly, if I was sat in Howard Webb's position has head of Referees I would be asking these questions.

"Now, did the Match Delegate present in the ground a former player and/or manager, make an observation on the incident?

"So they voted 5-0 that the decision on the day was incorrect.

"Webb, I hope has a face to face meeting with the team of match officials and ask each one of them to talk me through what they saw and why they made their call that resulted in the incorrect outcome.

"Clearly, the officials involved need to receive some operational advice on how to avoid such an error in the future."

Premier League have clear issue

This isn't the first issue of the season already.

And it's not like Villa haven't been given their own share of questionable officiating, just look at the draw against Hull.

Nobel Mendy put two hands on Matty Cash and shoving him down without playing the ball at all.

They will go for and against you throughout the season, and it appears that this panel is doing nothing actually positive to eradicate issues.
