Aston Villa star John McGinn hardly covered himself in glory as Scotland lost to Brazil on Wednesday.

The Tartan Army travelled to Miami knowing that qualification for the round of 32 was on the line.

It feels as if the pressure got to them as an early mistake from Scott McKenna allowed Vinicius Jr to open the scoring.

The Real Madrid star got another before half time before Matheus Cunha sealed a 3-0 win for Carlo Ancelotti.

That leaves qualification hanging in the balance for the Scots as they must now rely on results elsewhere to go through.

McGinn just wasn't able to drag his side across this time and it's clear his performance didn't go down well.

John McGinn slated for Scotland in Brazil defeat

The Villa Park faithful have become accustomed to top performances from their skipper every week.

He was able to show that on the world stage in the opener as he scored the winner against Haiti, but has struggled ever since.

That was truly on show against Brazil and wasn't missed by the national media at the Hard Rock Stadium

The Scotsman rated McGinn at a four and wrote, "Couldn't influence the game at all. Looked uncomfortable wide right and left."

That was only made worse by The Herald who described the Villa skipper as "less influential than Scotland needed him to be".

The Daily Record suggested that he had "very little joy" in midfield in yet another negative review.

That sums up everything about Scotland against Brazil, with McGinn suffering as much as anyone else.

The numbers behind Aston Villa star McGinn's showing vs Brazil

The 31-year-old featured across 89 minutes and floated between the left and right wing throughout.

That was unlikely to help his game, but he still maintained a 93 per cent pass accuracy and created one chance.

That's really as good as his performance got as he failed to chip in with a single defensive action while being dribbled past twice.

He also lost three duels and is even deemed to have made an error that led to one of Brazil's goals.

The word "uncomfortable" sums up his game perfectly as McGinn was unable to truly play the way he would have wanted to.
