Max Jenner has been quickly rising in the Aston Villa ranks over the last few weeks.

The academy prospect has been delivering for the under-21s, with the midfielder standing out and pushing for a first-team chance.

While typically the international break can hand many youngsters the opportunity to step up and train with the senior squad, who need numbers while others are away, this break brought a unique opportunity.

Aston Villa had set up a friendly against Sevilla as they continue to add match sharpness for the upcoming fixtures.

Unai Emery named quite a strong squad to face the Spanish side, with only a few places for youth players.

But, Jenner was one of those handed a chance to shine.

How did Max Jenner and Aston Villa fare vs Sevilla?

There were quite a few notable stories to take away from Aston Villa's friendly against Sevilla.

The Villans managed to secure a 3-1 win, with Brian Madjo making his return from injury.

On top of that, Alejandro Garnacho found the back of the net for the B6 outfit to put Villa 2-1 up.

However, it was the third goal for the Premier League side that piqued the most interest.

Jenner, who was brought on as a substitute in the 76th minute would find the net just seven minutes later.

The central midfielder had not been involved in Aston Villa's pre-season preparations, but he has bided his time and earned himself a chance to impress Emery.

He certainly made quite a first impression by adding that goal, and that is a moment that will stick in the manager's head.

That moment proves that Jenner can compete at the senior level and undoubtedly makes him a first-team option moving forward.

As previously stated, Jenner's under-21s performances for Aston Villa have been exceptional, and he may have just fast-tracked his pathway.

Which other Aston Villa youth players got a chance vs Sevilla?

Jenner was not the only youngster that Emery turned to, although there were just two more handed a chance.

Aston Villa did ultimately go quite strong, but left-back Rodrigo Fortes was among those that started the game.

Amid the injury to Ian Maatsen, the 18-year-old had an opportunity to showcase what he is made of, and it remains to be seen if he did enough to impress.

He was not the only youth fullback involved as Teddy Bloomfield was brought on at half-time in place of Fortes.

Perhaps it was Emery looking to test out two internal solutions with just one natural left-back option currently available.
