Aston Villa are everything that Birmingham City want to be.

As Unai Emery prepares to take his side back into the Champions League on Tuesday, the Blues are stuck in the Championship.

Under American ownership with big pockets, not much has changed at St Andrew's outside of an obvious League One promotion.

Villa don't care too much, and will travel to Belgium on 8 September to take on Club Brugge on Europe's top table.

Emery has transformed Villa Park from top-to-bottom, which all led to becoming Europa League champions last season.

Add to that multiple top five finishes in the Premier League, and life is golden when your the club that all your rivals are jealous of.

Midlands football is being carried by the Villans right now.

West Brom, Wolves, and more importantly, Birmingham, are all languishing in the Championship.

Emery is the reason why Villa are lightyears ahead, as well as NSWE, so it's no surprise to see the media attention that follows.

Guillem Balague of the BBC has been one of the media who has loved Emery's transformation at Aston Villa.

So much so, he's written a book.

Titled 'Rise of the Villans', it showcases the success of Emery and everything they have achieved together.

One Birmingham fan tried to be clever, comparing it to the rise and fall of the Kray twins, suggesting the latter will happen within a year.

Something he probably wishes he didn't do now.

Responding quickly, Balague put him in his place, writing: "You haven't been watching then? Obviously clueless."

Unai Emery is the master

Many would look at Aston Villa's summer and start to the Premier League season and worry.

Nobody at Villa Park will do that, though.

The Villans started ever slower last season, yet were in the Premier League title race midway through the campaign before sealing their top five spot.

Losing players like Emi Martinez, Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins would derail 99 per cent of clubs.

Villa and Emery will make sure that they are the excemption.

Signings like Johan Manzambi, Ibrahim Mbaye, Zion Suzuki and Nicolas Jackson will instead, take them into a new era.

Even with all this, Birmingham fans can only dream of ever reaching that level, so if one little joke makes them feel better, so be it.

There's only one club who get the last laugh here.
