George Hemmings gets Paul Scholes seal of approval after what he's seen at Aston Villa
Paul Scholes has been left blown away by what he's seen from George Hemmings at Aston Villa.
The 19-year-old is certainly highly rated at Bodymoor Heath after several years as a top academy talent.
He was one of many talents to come in at B6 from elsewhere, as he joined from Nottingham Forest in 2023.
That looks to have been a shrewd move from the Villans as he continues to grow into a top player under Unai Emery.
The midfielder made four first-team appearances last season and looks set to add to that tally moving forward.
Hemmings' first showing of the campaign came against PSG in the Super Cup as he seriously caught the eye of Scholes.
What does Paul Scholes make of George Hemmings?
There was plenty of noise surrounding Brian Madjo after the defeat in Salzburg, and for good reason.
The striker was superb and caused havoc for one of the best defences in world football.
That shouldn't distract from just how excellent Hemmings was in just his second ever senior start in a competitive fixture.
Praise has come in from supporters, but to get it from Scholes is about as good as it gets.
The 13-time Premier League champion discussed the teenager on The Overlap Fan Debate and was clearly impressed by what he saw against PSG.
He said: "Has he come through the youth George Hemmings? That was the first time I'd seen him last night and you look at him straight away."
Scholes then sat back and let out an audible admiration that proves just how blown away he was by what he saw.
How did Hemmings perform for Aston Villa vs PSG?
There is good reason why the two-time Champions League winner loves what he saw from the Villa youngster.
To feature for just the second time from the start, he made it look as if he had been doing it for years.
That saw him rack up 40 touches and complete 20 passes with an 80 per cent accuracy.
Hemmings took two shots and also created one chance for a teammate in Salzburg.
The youngster also chipped in with one tackle, seven recoveries and three duel wins as he looked to put himself about.
The biggest compliment that Emery could give to the teenager is the fact that he played 90 minutes against the best side in the world.
That is true proof of how highly Hemmings rated is by the Spaniard, something which has now been picked up on by one of the greatest Premier League midfielders ever.
It is exactly why the youngster is ready to take the Premier League by storm.
