Gabby Agbonlahor identifies 'real worry' over Aston Villa player, it's on Unai Emery to fix it

Unai Emery has many problems emerging at Aston Villa, with Gabby Agbonlahor pinpointing one significant worry.

The Villans, like last season, have started the Premier League campaign in incredibly poor form.

Emery's side have just one point from four games, and have managed to score just one goal, while conceding seven.

The squad has seen a significant overhaul, with plenty of new faces in the building at Villa Park.

That will, of course, take time for those members of the squad to gel and succumb to Emery's tactical ideas.

However, Nicolas Jackson is one player that is already causing major worry in B6.

What has Gabriel Agbonlahor said about Nicolas Jackson?

Jackson is a Premier League-proven striker, and his goalscoring record proves it.

In both of his previous seasons in the English top flight, Jackson managed to net double-digit goals (14 in 2023-2024 and 10 in 2024-2025).

However, strikers need to be on the pitch to score and make a difference, and Agbonlahor has already noticed an issue in that regard.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 14 September, the former Aston Villa striker said: "Jackson got booked and Emery told the bench that basically the next [challenge] and he's off.

"He took him off at half-time, and it killed us. You take your striker off because you can't trust him to lose his head, that's a real worry for me. Abraham came on and did nothing."

Villa have been left short of striker options with Ollie Watkins leaving and the current injury sustained by Brian Madjo.

Why Jackson worry is a credible frustration to have at Aston Villa

Jackson getting booked is an occurrence that Villa fans should start becoming familiar with.

The Senegalese striker is often put into the referee's book, and his statistics from his last two full Premier League seasons prove it.

In 2023-2024, Jackson picked up 10 yellow cards in 35 league appearances, according to Sofascore.

It was a problem for Chelsea at the time, too, as Jackson picked up a one-game suspension just six games into his career at Stamford Bridge.

He accumulated five yellow cards in just six appearances, showing an issue with his temperament on the pitch.

The following season would be slightly better, although he did play five games fewer.

Jackson picked up seven yellow cards in 30 Premier League appearances.

So, Agbonlahor has a very credible point and a worry that Emery must fix at Aston Villa.

Being without your marquee striker is certainly not ideal, especially when Villa are currently struggling to score goals.
