Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne has once again caught the eye with France.

The left-back travelled with his nation to the World Cup and started as a backup option.

That saw Theo Hernandez start ahead of him for the opening encounters of the summer tournament.

After the Al Hilal man struggled against Senegal, the Villa star was given his chance.

He hasn't looked back and has helped Les Bleus to solidify at the back and reach the semi-finals.

Digne was once again superb as France secured a 2-0 win against Morocco on Thursday.

What did the French media think of Lucas Digne vs Morocco?

Didier Deschamps' side is so full of attacking quality that the defence sometimes goes unnoticed.

That was on show once again as Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe both got on the scoresheet.

Even with the latter missing a first half penalty, he was able to have his say on the final result.

It was so nearly Digne who opened the scoring with a long-range effort that dipped and clipped the crossbar.

That was certainly noticed as Foot Mercato picked it out, saying: "You can tell he's gained confidence in this team and has grown in stature, with a strong first half marked by some excellent, incisive interventions and a shot that hit the crossbar from a long-range effort."

RMC Sports were also quick to pick out his "fine left-footed shot" while suggesting that he "grew into the game".

Maxifoot suggested that his effort deserved a "better fate" while also praising his overall showcase.

They said: "A good match from the left-back. Solid defensively, available on his flank, and valuable in supporting attacks, the Aston Villa player frequently provided an option for Doue. A complete and very clean performance."

The numbers behind Aston Villa star Digne vs Morocco

It is a bit of a surprise that the 32-year-old has been able to muscle his way into this France side.

You wouldn't have known that based on his showing against Morocco as he put up some excellent numbers.

His 96 per cent pass accuracy certainly catches the eye, especially alongside three attempted crosses.

That was only added to by five defensive actions, including one tackle, one clearance and three interceptions.

He capped that off my winning two duels to help keep Morocco quiet down the flank.

Digne has proven why he should be starting for France and is clearly winning over the French media.
