Aston Villa are somehow still waiting for their first win of the season, as they've only scored twice across all six games this campaign.

It’s all starting to fall apart at Villa Park, with Unai Emery's role at Villa now under strain.

Big changes are currently happening at B6. Monchi has left Aston Villa, and Roberto Olabe has already been selected as his replacement.

Fans will be hoping for things to turn around sooner rather than later, but they are going to need help from the players on the pitch.

Morgan Rogers has been poor for Villa, among others, and Emery has offered his insight into the England man's slow start.

Unai Emery has mixed views on Morgan Rogers for Aston Villa this season

Several clubs were interested in signing Rogers in the summer transfer window, but Villa managed to keep hold of their PFA award-winning midfielder.

Emery has been quizzed by the media on a couple of occasions about Rogers' dramatic drop off in form.

"He is performing under the level he had, and he is, as well, trying to recover level, but getting balance," his manager said.

"He is really anxious to recover his level. I am telling him to get balance. Accept how we are improving. We are not getting the same level in every match, but be confident you will get the same level again."

Emery has, however, been impressed by Rogers' attitude. "He’s a very, very good example for his teammates, for the spirit we want, being intelligent in the recruitment and trying to do a plan with the players progressing like him.

“The young players like him need to be passionate but very demanding. Their mentality is very important, and he has a very great mentality."

Aston Villa's success depends on Morgan Rogers

Rogers was instrumental in everything positive about Villa last season.

A unique ball-carrier, Rogers showed unmatched composure in the final third, also impressing on the Champions League stage.

  • Morgan Rogers registered 14 goals and 13 assists for Villa in 2024/25
  • It was only his first full season of playing in the Premier League and Europe
  • He earned his first England call-up in March 2024

Aston Villa will now look to change their torrid start with their inaugural Europa League match against Bologna on Thursday night, before Fulham at home on Sunday.

New signings Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott have instilled some belief in Villa fans that things will get better, but Rogers will also need to step up.
