Bryan King does not believe Emiliano Martinez will leave Aston Villa this summer.

The ex-Villa scout claims that any goalkeeper brought to the club will arrive as a backup to the Argentina international.

It comes after Bruno Andrade shared via X (15 June) that Unai Emery's side had opened talks to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Luiz Júnior from Famalicão.

The Portuguese journalist reported that Villa will need to pay £8.4million plus £1.6million in bonuses.

But King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - does not feel that this update indicates Martinez is on his way out.

"In today's market, at the current prices, this could be a player who is being brought in as cover," King said.

"Martinez is a World Cup winner who has been instrumental in Villa's recent success. They won't be getting rid of him.

"For a fee of around £10million, it sounds like Júnior would arrive as a backup."

Could Emiliano Martinez leave Aston Villa this summer?

With Villa linked to a goalkeeper, fears will understandably arise over what that means for Martinez.

He is one of the club's most important players and supporters will therefore be desperate to keep hold of him.

With Villa set to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season, the club won't want to lose too many big-name stars.

And with Douglas Luiz's exit seemingly all but confirmed, Emery cannot afford to lose Martinez as well.
