Boubacar Kamara is Aston Villa's new undroppable as season-high stats vs Newcastle prove
Boubacar Kamara has continued to prove his worth to Aston Villa with his performance against Newcastle the best of the bunch.
The Frenchman has long been an important asset for the B6 outfit, but his injury history has often derailed his seasons.
Now, the midfielder is back fit after missing the second half of the 2025-26 campaign, with him starting in all Premier League games so far.
His return to full fitness has provided Unai Emery with a much-needed sense of stability in the middle of the park.
With competition for places in his position high, the 26-year-old is making quite the convincing case to be one of the first names on Emery's teamsheet.
And he may have already succeeded.
The season-topping stat Boubacar Kamara hit vs Newcastle
Kamara is seeing a rise over the last few weeks in his level that could be behind Villa's uptick in form.
While attacking players often steal the headlines, the Frenchman's influence in the middle of the park is proving just as important to Villa's performances.
The Villans started the season with no wins in their opening four Premier League games, but they have now picked up two in their last three.
Against Newcastle, Kamara was everywhere on the pitch, mopping up the ball and preventing danger.
His work rate led to him ending the game with 17 defensive contributions, according to FotMob, the highest any Aston Villa player has achieved in a single game this season.
Those 17 actions have been broken down into five tackles, two blocks, three clearances, one interception and six recoveries.
The Villa ace also saw an active game in terms of battles, being involved in more ground duels (16) than anyone else, while also coming out with the most won (10).
It is a showcase that will make it hard for Emery to ever consider leaving him out of his starting XI.
Even with numerous options on the bench to choose from for his midfield pivot.
The Aston Villa duo no midfield will want to face
Kamara alongside Joao Gomes is a ball-winning midfield that can cause problems for nearly any opposition.
The Frenchman and the Brazilian are both excellent at breaking up play and winning the ball back.
On a per-90 basis, Gomes is in the top six per cent for tackles.
Hopefully, this is a relationship we can get to see being built up more, as the Newcastle result showed many positive signs.
