Aston Villa: Unai Emery will love what Victor Lindelof did as Sweden thrash Tunisia
Aston Villa ace Victor Lindelof got his World Cup campaign started with Sweden in the early hours of Monday morning.
Graham Potter's side opened up their tournament with a clash against 45 FIFA rated outfit Tunisia.
The Swede's wasted no time in getting going as Brighton's Yasin Ayari opened the scoring after just seven minutes.
He ultimately bagged a brace while Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Mattias Svanberg also got on the scoresheet in a 5-1 win.
There isn't a much better way to start the summer than kicking off with a trashing and that's exactly what they did.
Lindelof captained his side to victory at Monterrey Stadium, with his antics almost certainly catching the eye back at Bodymoor Heath.
Victor Lindelof stars for Sweden in win vs Tunisia
The 31-year-old has certainly made himself a cult hero in B6 after his form in the final weeks of the season.
He featured as a defensive midfielder in claret and blue, helping to win the Europa League with relative ease.
Lindelof has now dropped back into defence for his nation after featuring in Potter's back three alongside Isak Hien and Gustaf Lagerbielke.
The ex-Manchester United man couldn't keep a clean sheet, but still put in a solid performance with five defensive actions and three duel wins.
He also completed two recoveries at the back as he looked to keep Sweden ticking over in Guadalupe.
It won't be that which impresses Unai Emery; it will be his showcase with the ball at his feet.
Lindelof continues Aston Villa form at the World Cup
In a 5-1 win there wasn't too much defending for the 31-year-old to do on the day.
That meant his quality on the ball was able to shine through, but had to count for something as possession was shared 49 to 51 per cent in Tunisia's favour.
Emery will be delighted to learn that Lindelof completed the most passes on the pitch with 51 while maintaining an 89 per cent accuracy.
He also completed five of those into the final third as he looked to make a difference going forward.
That only adds to the glowing reviews surrounding his Aston Villa performances, this time on the biggest stage of all.
