Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers continues to be treated pretty unfairly at the World Cup.

The Englishman came into the summer tournament as arguably one of the biggest talking points.

He was always going to earn a call-up, but there was an expectation that he would be starting regularly.

That hasn't been the case despite his form in claret and blue throughout the campaign.

The 23-year-old hasn't been able to show that for the Three Lions so far and that continued into the round of 16.

Rogers was afforded an opportunity in the 3-2 win against Mexico on Monday in a moment that sums up his summer so far.

There was plenty of talk heading into the clash at the Azteca for many factors in Mexico City.

The atmosphere, heat and altitude all looked set to play into El Tri's hands at the World Cup once again.

That wasn't the case in the end as goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane helped seal a dramatic 3-2 win.

With Jarell Quansah sent off, the latter stages of the game were all about preservation for Tuchel.

That saw the German call on Rogers in the 90th minute as a replacement for Harry Kane.

The Villa man saw out the 12 added minutes played at the end of the 90, but that mainly consisted of England clearances rather than any sort of attacking play.

The 23-year-old is better than that and truly deserved better than being used for time-wasting purposes in such a massive game for the Three Lions.

The numbers behind Aston Villa star Rogers' World Cup

Considering it looked like being a breakout tournament for the attacker on the world stage, it certainly hasn't worked out that way.

That was on true show against Mexico as he was able to pick up just four touches of the ball in added-on time.

He completed a clearance with one of those, but he also lost one duel in the Mexican capital.

He had played in all three of the group stage games, with just one of those being a start.

His group stage consisted of 125 minutes of action, with 72 per cent of those coming against Panama in the final game of the group.

Rogers completed 100 per cent of dribbles that day and also created one chance for a teammate.

That was added to by five duel wins and two tackles, which showed what he can bring to Tuchel's side.

Despite that, he was shown true disrespect against Mexico with nothing but a time-wasting decision to bring him on.
