Aston Villa continue to hold the bragging rights over Birmingham City.

Despite the Blues' change in ownership in 2023, they have still fallen far below Villa's level, and the Villans even had the pleasure of seeing them in League One last season.

Aston Villa's season now seems to be up to speed, with Unai Emery's side beating Feyenoord 2-0 in the Europa League in midweek.

Before the match, Aston Villa also won 2-0 against Fulham and as their fortunes appear to turn, neighbours Birmingham are still struggling.

Birmingham owner Tom Wagner tries to gee up crowd vs Wrexham

Marco Bizot was excellent against Feyenoord, and following Emi Martinez's injury, he could be competing for the number one spot.

Equally, Villa's attack appears to be up and running, with Emi Buendia set to keep his place against Burnley after scoring two in two.

Birmingham could only wish for half of Villa's attacking output this season, as they slumped to a third draw in their opening nine games against Wrexham on Friday.

Following the game, embarrassing videos of their owner Tom Wagner surfaced attempting to get the away end to create an atmosphere.

The American can be heard saying: "The energy on the pitch isn't great but they are going to feed off of us.

"We haven't been great, we need to be louder in the second half. They need to feed off of us."

Aston Villa fans will be grateful that their club hasn't been taken over by a owner who creates an embarrassing atmosphere like Wagner has done against Wrexham.

Aston Villa fans given more ammunition against Birmingham

The game itself was dubbed the Hollywood derby, which is enough to make any proper football fan squirm.

The Villans will be happy that their owners don't get too attached to the club and don't pretend to be supporters, and try to create an atmosphere at Villa Park.

  • The last time Villa played Birmingham, Jack Grealish scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win
  • Villa have had some special moments against them, including Alan Hutton's solo strike in a 4-2 win, which earned him the nickname of the Scottish Cafu

Equally, having a rival like Birmingham create so many viral and embarrassing moments gives them plenty of ammunition against the Blues.
