Aston Villa star Lucas Digne's chances of starting at the World Cup have surely gone down.

The Villans ace is behind Theo Hernandez in the French international pecking order.

He will have hoped to have made a good impression on Didier Deschamps in the 3-1 win over Northern Ireland on 9 June.

Had the 32-year-old done that, he may have had a chance of overhauling the Al Hilal man.

It does not appear like the Villa Park hero will be handed the chance though, as he did not impress in the friendly.

The Europa League champion was involved from the bench, but he did not make his case in his latest cameo.

How did Aston Villa star Lucas Digne perform in France cameo?

Villans ace Digne came on in the second-half, playing 28 minutes for Les Blues in Lille, but it was far from his finest showing.

He attempted to get forward taking three touches in the opposition box, but failing with both of his two cross attempts, per Fotmob.

Aston Villa: Lucas Digne blamed for France defeat vs Ivory Coast as 'sluggish' defender struggles

He was solid on the ball, completing 84 per cent of his passes, and not being dispossessed at all.

However, his defensive numbers did not inspire confidence, as he made just one tackle, one clearance and one recovery.

In terms of duels, he won one of two on the ground and two of three in the air, for 50 per cent and 67 per cent success rates, respectively.

The perfomance may not have been dreadful, but not spectacular enough to increase his chances of potentially pipping Hernandez to a starting spot.

Digne deserves France starting berth

Hopefully, Deschamps goes off the levels that they have been playing at this season when making his decision.

Digne has been playing in the best league in the world, the Premier League and starred as Villa won a trophy in Europe.

Hernandez is playing in the Saudi league, which is considered as a final payday before retirement.

It appears like the former Everton man has a difficult task to get into the team, and will have to settle for a place on the bench.

He did not help himself with his showing against the Green and White Army, so it would not be a surprise if the manager goes with the alternative option.
