Aston Villa's bitter rivals Birmingham City have come under fire live on talkSPORT.

The Villans are coming off the back of Europa League glory and are looking ahead to another season in the Champions League.

It's another period of change under Unai Emery, but there is every reason to be excited for what is to come, even without Morgan Rogers.

That is thanks in part to their new stadium plans which has got everyone talking in the second city.

The latest development surrounding the ground caught the eye of Andy Goldstein as he put down Villa's rival to Troy Deeney's face.

There is no doubt that Tom Wagner and Tom Brady have bright ideas for the future.

That is evidenced by their grand stadium plans which could soon see a "Sports Quarter" open in the city centre.

The so-called "Powerhouse" and it's bizarre-looking chimneys will be the centre of these plans, while Birmingham City Council eye further change to the area.

The Wheels Park site, where Blues are planning to build the arena, is now also set to be home to a nature conservation site.

That was picked up by Goldstein via talkSPORT as he took chance to swipe at Birmingham City and Troy Deeney, much to the delight of every Villa fan.

He said: "Some exciting news over the last 24 hours concerning your beloved Birmingham. Are you aware of this? The council are proposing a new nature conservation site right on the 48-acre Wills Park land, the exact spot where Blues are planning their new 62,000-seater stadium.

"Do you think the whole project will elevate Blues above Villa? Who wrote that? Of course that won't happen, who's written that? Don't be so silly."

That last line, right in the face of Deeney will be music to the ears of everyone in B6.

The new stadium plans may have strange looking chimneys and a capacity that Blues may never fill, but you can't fault the ambition.

What Villa fans can take a swipe at is the strange antics on show this summer.

Birmingham are preparing to play Barcelona in pre-season, which is certainly a coup for a friendly.

The issue is that it is being marketed like the Champions League final.

Tickets have sold out at St Andrews, which is admirable, but have you ever heard of a one-off fan park for a friendly?

Victoria Square will host a watch party for the friendly, which is bizarre in itself.

That is only made worse knowing that the last event in the city centre revolving around football saw Aston Villa parade the Europa League trophy.
