Aston Villa do not want to sign James Tarkowski or Kalidou Koulibaly, according to Goal Zone journalist Tom Ross.

He claims that while the Burnley and Napoli defenders continue to be linked with the club, the Villans will not be pursuing their services.

They have already signed Diego Carlos from Sevilla this summer and he plays the same role as the aforementioned duo.

Ross said, via his personal Twitter account, "Aston Villa are being consistently linked with Tarkowski and Koulibaly from Napoli too. Villa not interested in either of them."

Another centre-back needed

While Koulibaly and Tarkowski are not targets that doesn't mean that Villa do not need to sign another centre-back.

Carlos will take up one starting position but both Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings have proven to be underwhelming.

They have cost the team needless goals time and again and both should not be regular starters next season.

There have been links to Liverpool's Joe Gomez and the Steven Gerrard factor may help get him over the line.

He would be someone that would walk into the first team and his versatility would be another reason why the hierarchy could fancy him.

At this stage in his career, Gomez would definitely want to be a first-team regular and that's unlikely to happen at Anfield but surely can at Villa Park.
