Aston Villa could look to sign new forward in January - Sky Sports journalist

Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa may target a forward in the January transfer window after missing out on Joao Felix to Chelsea.

The Villans have had a positive start to the campaign which has seen many standout performances but that has been coupled with various injury concerns.

This could see Unai Emery target new additions in the upcoming winter window with a centre back and a forward being mooted by Bardell.

The Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist thinks a sale is needed but an alternative to Felix after missing out on the Portuguese international to Chelsea could be looked at.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: "The centre back role is an obvious gap in the squad at the moment.

"Maybe a winger or a forward, at a push, might be looked at because we know they missed out on Joao Felix but because Duran has done so well it might make things difficult.

"I don't actually think there is space in the squad right now without an outgoing."

It appeared that the ex-Atletico Madrid man was going to be on his way to the Midlands during the summer window, but that move never went through.

Instead, Villa stuck with Duran who has proved to be a phenomenon with his wonder goals against Bayern Munich and Everton.

It would be a bold move for Emery and Co. to go in search of a new forward option after handing a new contract to the Colombia international but that might not stop the Villans as they look to build on a top-four finish last campaign.
