Aston Villa star Boubacar Kamara is set to spend a period on the sidelines after being forced off against Brentford on Saturday.

Aston Villa lost to Brentford 1-0, with the Villans unable to respond to Dango Ouattara's early breakaway goal in the Premier League.

The loss continued what has been a difficult start to the Premier League season, with Unai Emery's team held to a goalless draw against Newcastle United on the opening day.

The Spaniard has faced criticism for his set-up, with some Villa fans seeing the injury to Kamara as the perfect opportunity to change things.

Links to midfielders have also intensified in the days since the Frenchman's knock, with Villa making an approach to sign Adrien Rabiot.

Boubacar Kamara set for two-to-three-week absence

Fans can be forgiven for instantly fearing the worst when Kamara was substituted. The midfielder has missed much of the previous two seasons due to injuries to his knee and hamstring.

But initial scans have alleviated concerns of an extended lay-off, as reported by The Athletic on 25 August.

Kamara is likely to miss two to three weeks with a hamstring injury, with Villa hoping that he can return for the first game after the international break.

What games will Boubacar Kamara miss for Villa?

The international break will, fortunately, come at a convenient time for Villa, in terms of Kamara's involvement.

The Frenchman will certainly be unavailable when the Villans host Crystal Palace at Villa Park on 31 August, but the break falls in the two weeks immediately following.

The first game after the break is away to Everton at The Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Kamara will hope to return to action.

Should Villa not want to rush the 25-year-old, however, he may well return for the trip to Sunderland.

With Kamara out, pressure will be on Emery to tweak his system. The Spaniard could drop John McGinn completely, electing to move Youri Tielemans into a deeper role next to Amadou Onana.

This would allow for Morgan Rogers to take his place in the most advanced position in midfield, and leave spaces for two wider wingers on either side of Ollie Watkins.
