Tammy Abraham returned to Aston Villa in January, but it wasn’t the fairytale he was likely hoping for on a personal note.

The Villans did win the Europa League and finish with Champions League football secured again, but Unai Emery did it with his favourites.

Abraham was firmly stuck behind Ollie Watkins at Villa Park, with the England international exploding back into form ahead of the World Cup.

And while Watkins is in North America already, Abraham has undergone successful surgery on a previous issue from the season.

It is unknown what the particulars of the surgery are, but Aston Villa will be hoping it puts him in a stronger position for next season already.

Tammy Abraham confirms new surgery

Abraham took to his personal Instagram account to confirm a successful operation, but there was little other information.

It’s clear that he was managing an issue towards the end of the season, and that didn’t exactly help his chances of breaking through.

His goal to rescue a point against Leeds at Villa Park springs to mind, and that poachers instinct will be needed next season, too.

With two Premier League goals and one in the FA Cup, Abraham himself will want a much better year in claret and blue next season.

This will surely help.

Where did Abraham struggle?

Looking at his stats via Sofascore for the Premier League, the striker only average 25 minutes per game in which he featured, which is nowhere near enough.

With three big chances missed in that time leaving him with a 22 per cent conversion rate, Emery will be demanding more in the final third.

Only winning 48 per cent of his duels isn’t great either, but there is always a bigger picture with a lone striker battling against tough defences.

It’s not all negative, though, as Abraham does have good experience in the Champions League.

His last shot in the competition was with AC Milan, and he scored twice in two starts and nine appearances for the Italian giants.

Outscoring his xG by nearly double and an increased goal conversion rate of 25 per cent in limited minutes proves he can do it on the biggest stage under pressure.

That is what Abraham will have to prove, and he has no excuses now this surgery has been complete.
