Aston Villa are looking to capitalise on Harvey Elliott's lack of game time at Liverpool.

Elliott was considered a top prospect in English football when he was signed by Jurgen Klopp just months after his 16th birthday.

However, six years on, the midfielder has failed to lock down a regular place at Liverpool and was limited to just 360 minutes in the Reds' Premier League title-winning campaign.

Unai Emery is desperate to add options in the middle of the park, especially with Amadou Onana's potential exit, and will be grateful for the latest news surrounding Elliott.

Aston Villa linked with move for disgruntled Elliott

Emery will be looking for smart, good-value deals in the transfer window to contend with Villa's ongoing financial problems.

As reported by the Birmingham Mail (9 June), the Claret and Blues are keen to sign Elliott this summer, with the Liverpool ace recently claiming that he is vying for more game time.

The 22-year-old has posted a decent return considering his lack of minutes, and would be seen as a coup for Villa's under-pressure President of Football Operations, Monchi.

Ex-Villa scout Bryan King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - believes the West Midlands club would be able to land Elliott's signature for £30million.

“Elliott is a very good player,” King said.

“He is a player who has come up through the system, and he’s a London boy; his parents are from London. Therefore, watch this space, a London-based club might also be interested in him. I’d imagine that Liverpool would accept £30m for Elliott, that is how much they’ll want.

“He’s technically a very good player, and he’s versatile too. I don’t think he wants to be a squad addition, though. I think he wants to be a first-team player; that is the problem he’s had at Liverpool.”

Elliott would be an astute signing for Aston Villa

Emery's team somewhat faltered in the middle of the season while competing on multiple fronts due to a lack of squad depth.

The midfielder trio of John McGinn, Youri Tielemans, and Morgan Rogers averaged 52 appearances between them in a gruelling season and needed cover.

Elliott would be a very welcome addition to the midfield, with his ability to play anywhere in the centre of the park allowing others to be rotated.

For a player still to hit his prime, the former Fulham ace has a wealth of top-level experience and would represent very good business at just £30m.
