Diego Carlos could leave Aston Villa in January after Unai Emery was left impressed by £25million-rated Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez.

The Brazilian has had an up-and-down season so far for the Villans which has seen him dominate against Bayern Munich while also making mistakes against Wolves and Crystal Palace.

As a result, Villa could look to cash in on the 31-year-old in January or the summer while he still commands a positive fee.

With that being said, Emery may have found an ideal alternative for Carlos after playing against Ordonez in the Champions League.

The 20-year-old has left a positive impression on the Spaniard as well as other Premier League sides like Newcastle United and Liverpool.

This could see the 20-year-old become the subject of an intense transfer battle in January with a cut-price £25m fee potentially enough to tempt him to England [Caught Offside].

This would certainly be a step towards giving the backline in B6 a youthful refresh which could be more beneficial than starting ageing stars like Carlos.

The Ecuador international is similar to Ezri Konsa given that he can feature as a right back as well as a central defender which could help him develop under Emery.

With that being said, the option to move the ex-Sevilla man on to replace him with the Brugge starlet could prove to be a smart move.

This would represent a risk given his lack of experience compared to the Brazilian but the Villa boss has already proved his ability to improve young players with Morgan Rogers.
