Aston Villa pursued a deal to sign Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus in the summer and saw a £29.3m bid rejected for the full-back, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Villans had an excellent campaign last time out, securing a top-four finish and most importantly Champions League football and were keen to improve the quality of their squad this summer.

Cambiaso was one of the key players identified by Villa as they looked to bolster their squad however any move failed to materialise.

Aston Villa and Unai Emery are perfect for each other

Villa's rise since Emery's appointment back in 2022 has been nothing short of remarkable. In just a few seasons they have gone from a club flirting with relegation to a side capable of challenging the big boys at the top of the table.

Their most recent Champions League result, a 1-0 win against German giants Bayern Munchen (2 October) is a testament to the hard work the club have put in on and off the pitch.

Unlike many clubs upon featuring in the Champions League, their league form has remained consistent throughout. Villa sit fifth in the table, just four points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Players such as Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran have excelled under Emery who has a history of helping players reach their full potential.

Villa will be keen to use January as a chance to acquire additional talent and solidify their status as a top-four Premier League club and a deal for Cambiaso may be revisited even if unlikely.
