Aston Villa missed out on Champions League football on the final day of the Premier League season.

That lack of elite European revenue hits hard, sending ripples through the club's summer transfer plans.

To navigate the dreaded Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Villa bosses are once again set to be forced into selling some of their most valuable assets, desperately trying to create the financial wiggle room needed to bring in new talent.

Here, Villa News looks at three players who could be sold and moved on from Villa Park.

Emiliano Martinez

The World Cup-winning goalkeeper is a fan favourite and a commanding presence, but his high value and the club's need for funds make him a prime candidate for a big-money move.

Reports have linked him with clubs in Saudi Arabia and even Barcelona.

For a player reportedly valued around £40million, and turning 33 this year, a sale could represent excellent business for Villa, freeing up a significant chunk of the wage bill and bringing in crucial transfer income.

Despite his error on the final day of the season, this would still be a very sad goodbye to a proud servant for Unai Emery and the club.

Jacob Ramsey

A product of the famed Aston Villa academy, Ramsey's sale would be particularly impactful for PSR as it would count as pure profit.

The young midfielder has battled injuries, but when fit, he offers dynamism and an attacking threat.

With interest from top Premier League clubs like West Ham, Arsenal, and Tottenham, a bid in the region of £50million could be tempting for Villa's hierarchy, especially given the PSR crunch.

Losing a homegrown talent is always tough for fans, but the financial benefit of such a sale cannot be overstated.

Emi Buendía

The Argentine playmaker has endured a torrid time with injuries since his big-money move from Norwich.

After a significant knee ligament injury sidelined him for the entire 2023-24 season, and a loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen that didn't fully reignite his spark, Buendía's high wages and initial transfer fee make him a prime candidate for a sale.

With Premier League new boys Leeds United reportedly reaffirming their interest and lining up a bid worth over £16million, a move could be on the cards.

While talented, his sale would represent a significant chunk of pure profit on the books, which is golden for PSR.

PSR headache looms large

The Premier League's strict PSR guidelines dictate that clubs cannot incur losses exceeding £105 million over a three-year period.

While Aston Villa have made significant strides on the pitch and in commercial revenue, their substantial investment in the squad over recent seasons means they are sailing close to the wind.

Sources close to the club indicate that player sales will be essential before the June 30th deadline to avoid potential sanctions.

It's a harsh truth for fans: to continue strengthening the Villa squad and competing at the highest level, some tough goodbyes are on the horizon.

The question isn't if players will be sold, but who.

As hard as it may be for Villa to let some of their players move on, it is required in order to avoid potential points deductions.
