Millwall look set to demand a club record transfer fee should Aston Villa move for Femi Azeez.

The 24-year-old has certainly been one of the best players in the Championship this season after helping the Lions to a third-place finish.

His influence in attacking areas has certainly made a positive impact, although missing out on automatic promotion was a blow.

Alex Neil’s side have since missed out on a place in the play-off final at Wembley after defeat against Hull City on Monday.

That leaves the door open for Villa to sign Azeez in the summer, but it won’t stop the East London club from demanding a sizable fee.

The Englishman has had a meteoric rise since moving to the Den, following a positive stint at Reading in League One.

He has gone on to have a terrific campaign in the Championship, earning himself a spot in the Team of the Season.

It wasn’t enough to earn his side promotion as a 2-0 defeat at home to Hull saw the Tigers steal the place at a showpiece final at Wembley.

The winger could still be on his way to the Premier League as various sides look set to showcase interest, with ex-Millwall man Bryan King mooting a record transfer demand at The Den.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, King said: “He’s a player who’s had a very good season.

“If he leaves Millwall, it will be for a record sum, that is for sure. I wouldn’t let him go for anything less than £25m.

“I would expect plenty of clubs to come in for him and even bid £30m, and that wouldn’t be a silly figure.

“He’s a talented player, and he’s the sort of player that Aston Villa need.

“He’s got a trick, and after his performances this season, he’s certainly put himself in the frame for a move.

“Signing for Villa would be a great move for him and would be a great payday for Millwall.”

Villa have been linked to Azeez previously, and now could be the perfect chance to get a deal over the line after their play-off nightmare.

Unfortunately for Neil’s side, defeat to Hull will ultimately leave them open to the potential loss of multiple key stars this summer.

Azeez has arguably been their best player and will likely attract significant interest in the summer.

That is even the case after a disappointing showing against the Tigers, where he failed to score or assist in the play-off semi-finals.

In the 2-0 defeat on Monday, he still managed to take two shots with a 100 per cent shot accuracy while completing one dribble and four crosses.

That sort of creativity and direct nature will certainly interest Villa, with even a club record sale for Millwall looking likely to be worthwhile.
