Tyrone Mings told it’s ‘cheerio’ after Tottenham shocker as Aston Villa prioritise replacement

Aston Villa are now keeping tabs on potential replacements for Tyrone Mings.

The Englishman has been a stalwart at Villa Park ever since completing an initial loan switch from Bournemouth in 2019.

He has seen it all in claret and blue throughout his seven years in the Midlands and remains a semi-regular starting XI member under Unai Emery.

The 33-year-old was called into action on Sunday as the Villans fell to a humiliating 2-1 loss against Tottenham.

Mings was shocking in the Spurs defeat, and it now seems as if he could be on his way out of the Midlands, moving into the summer.

Tyrone Mings done at Aston Villa

The centre-back has come under fire this season for many poor performances when called upon by Emery.

That has only been amplified after a terrible showing as a relegation-threatened Lilywhites side walked all over the Villans.

Frustration has been rife on social media, with many fans directing their anger at the defender in particular for his role in the defeat.

Former goalkeeper Bryan King has utilised his own experience as a player and believes Mings has reached the end of the road at Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, King said: “Tyrone Mings used to be an England international, but he was miles off it.

“I’d be saying cheerio now, his time’s up.

“He’s been a good servant, but watching him as an ex-footballer, you know when it’s time.

“I think a new centre-back is a priority for Villa now if they want to challenge next year. Taxi for Mr Mings.”

Mings has shown his limitations at Aston Villa this season, and it looks as if the Spurs defeat was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Ironic cheers for Mings on the Holte End vs Tottenham

If anything could just sum up how bad the Englishman was on Sunday night, it was the ironic cheers from the Holte End.

The defender consistently took too long on the ball, and when he eventually completed a pass, it almost exclusively found Victor Lindelof.

That summed up his performance as his seemingly impressive 93 per cent pass accuracy certainly came with its limitations at Villa Park.

There is very little positive to say about his performance, and many will likely be happy to see him ride off into the sunset when the season ends.

As King says, “Taxi for Mr Mings.”
