Coventry City tipped to move for Lamare Bogarde as Aston Villa in line for hefty profit

Coventry City have been tipped to sign Lamare Bogarde from Aston Villa after sealing promotion to the Premier League.

Frank Lampard and Co. are looking ahead to a first season in the top flight for 25 years after sealing the Championship title.

Ironically, it was the Villans who condemned them to the drop in 2001, after a 3-2 Villa Park win left the Sky Blues down with a game to spare.

Now that they are back among the elite, they will need fresh faces if they want to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.

Coventry could turn to Bogarde as one of their first targets, as a B6 departure is discussed with the summer approaching.

Coventry City to look at Lamare Bogarde deal

The Dutchman is one of the only Bodymoor Heath academy players to break through under Unai Emery, but has struggled at times this season.

He hasn’t made a positive impression recently, with his showings against Fulham and Nottingham Forest representing red flags in claret and blue.

That has prompted many to suggest that his race may be run at Villa Park after failing to prove himself as a regular in B6.

Former Villa scout Bryan King believes it would be best for all parties if he departed, with a switch to Coventry City potentially on the cards.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, King said: “He’s not an outstanding player, and he’s never going to be a regular in the starting XI.

“His chances are limited at Villa, so maybe he feels as if he needs to go somewhere he can get regular first-team football.

“Look at Coventry City, they could be interested in him. They’ll need to strengthen their squad, that’s for sure.

“I’d say that £15m would be a good sale for him. He’s got Premier League experience, and that is what Coventry will be looking for.”

Bogarde has come under fire recently at Aston Villa, so this sort of deal may prove to be the best-case scenario for all parties.

Aston Villa can agree another deal with Coventry City for Bogarde

The Villans haven’t been shy about doing deals with the Sky Blues in recent years, even with them trying to force a rivalry with the B6 outfit.

Fans at the CBS Arena seem to want a derby next season and are looking to make that happen, despite it being somewhere for young or struggling Villa players to go over the years.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden is the most recent example, as he joined Coventry in the summer on a permanent deal after many seasons away from Villa Park on loan.

He joined the likes of Callum O’Hare, Gary Gardner and Nathan Delfouneso to move across the West Midlands on loan or permanently.

That points towards a business relationship between the two sides, something that could be utilised to make a £15m move happen for Bogarde.
