Aston Villa in line for multi-million payday as Bayern Munich friendly mooted after UEFA concerns

Aston Villa could land a seven-figure fee as they look set to face off against Bayern Munich in a summer friendly.

The Villans have had their fair share of financial trouble in recent seasons, with a UEFA sanction seemingly still in the pipeline.

An £82million pre-tax loss was submitted to the European governing body just last week, marking the third year the claret and blue outfit have reported losses.

UEFA rules prevent clubs from recording asset sales like the women’s team, so finding other avenues of revenue is always going to be a big deal.

Villa could take a step in the right direction, moving into the summer with a friendly against Bayern Munich set to rake in a hugely positive fee.

Aston Villa set to face Bayern Munich in Hong Kong

The B6 outfit haven’t travelled to play a first-team match in Hong Kong since 2011, but could do so at the end of the current campaign.

Local outlet Sing Tao Daily has reported that Villa are set to be welcomed to East Asia 15 years later for a friendly clash against a Bundesliga side.

Bayern Munich look likely to be the opposition as the Villans prepare for a 6000 mile trip to Hong Kong for the exhibition.

The B6 outfit have been mooted as the next “Premier League powerhouse” to feature in the Special Administrative Region of China.

That will be exciting for local residents who may want to watch the claret and blue outfit, but it will also mark an important financial venture.

How much could Aston Villa make from Hong Kong friendly?

There have been many examples of big teams playing friendlies in Hong Kong in recent years as football continues to grow in Asia.

A recent example saw Lionel Messi and Inter Miami travel to Hong Kong Stadium, with their League XI facing off against the MLS outfit.

That clash obviously provided the prospect of watching the Barcelona legend, but he never played due to health concerns.

David Beckham’s franchise still earned a reported £4.7million for playing the fixture, something which Villa would be hopeful of repeating.

Even if it is a lower fee in that region, to bag a multi-million payday for a friendly is something that the B6 hierarchy won’t want to turn down.
