Aston Villa could make deadline-busting move to seal Harry Wilson transfer after new agreement

Harry Wilson could be a surprise addition to Aston Villa’s squad on deadline day.

The Villans hold an interest in Wilson, given the fact that he scored eight and assisted four in 23 Premier League games this season.

The 28-year-old is available on a free transfer in the summer, and that could lead to a permanent exit before the deadline strikes.

The Villa Park outfit have until 7:00 pm GMT on 2 February to complete a deal for the Welshman.

Aston Villa can seal Wilson switch after Fulham developments

Villa have signed two young forwards in Alysson and Brian Madjo, but Wilson would be an experienced option alongside Tammy Abraham.

BBC reporter Sami Mokbel raised the question of a potential move for Wilson on the last day of the window, refusing to rule out the Blues after the Cottagers signed Oscar Bobb from Manchester City.

Speaking on 2 February, he said: “The Harry Wilson situation at Fulham might move.

“He has six months left on his contract and he can leave for nothing in the summer, Oscar Bobb has just gone there, I just wonder if an Aston Villa or an Everton have a little nibble on deadline day?

“I’m not saying Fulham would entertain it given how well he is playing but they have a ready replacement there now, and I understand there is an interest in him.”

Why Villa need to act now on Wilson interest

The Welsh wizard would give the B6 side another creative option as they look to seal a place in the Champions League next season.

He can play on the flanks and in the number 10 role, which would give Unai Emery even more flexibility with his selections, and perhaps an ability to trick opponents with his teamsheet and tactical approach.

He is a top-class player, with deadly free-kicks both from a shooting and crossing angle, but he is also very good from open play too, and could bring something different to the side.

Given that there has been no indication that he will sign a new deal with the Craven Cottage side, he could be available for a bargain fee, as Marco Silva’s side will not want to lose him for free.

The Villans need to take advantage, as they present a better option than the likes of Everton, Brentford or Crystal Palace, who also hold an interest.

It would be much more complicated to complete a free transfer, given that more clubs will likely be in the market for the 28-year-old, and can probably offer better wages, with Villa’s difficult financial position at the moment.

Therefore, Villa need to make their move now, and secure a cut-price deal for the former Liverpool man.
