Aston Villa have hit form at an important time as they have started the Champions League campaign perfectly.

Not too long ago, Unai Emery was under pressure at Aston Villa, with his position seemingly slipping away from him.

Emery was a favourite to be sacked, but has now completely turned it around as Aston Villa beat Feyenoord 2-0 to extend their win streak to three.

With the international break looming, call-ups from respective national teams have been announced, as Aston Villa have provided an update that will leave Emery anxious for the next two weeks.

Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Ezri Konsa all called up for England

As per Aston Villa's official X account, Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Ezri Konsa have all been called up to the England squad for games against Wales and Latvia.

The trio started the season poorly, as Konsa received a red card in the first game of the season, but they have all been instrumental in Villa's recent three-game resurgence.

Trio in Villa's first Premier League win of the season against Fulham:

  • Morgan Rogers played the full 90 and grabbed his first assist of the season
  • Ollie Watkins played the full 90 and scored his first goal of the season
  • Ezri Konsa played the full 90 and misplaced just a single pass (63/64)

International breaks are known for being a head coach's nightmare, as it's no different in Emery's case here.

Three of his best players are all going away to play in games that will ultimately have no effect on Villa's season, as the games bring injury risk.

Aston Villa trio are the core of Unai Emery's team

Villa were narrowly edged out in the Champions League Quarter-finals by the eventual crowned winners PSG last season.

Rogers, Watkins, and Konsa were all staples in the side that helped Villa climb into the last eight of the most prestigious club competition in Europe.

They are the core of this Emery team, and losing any of them would be a huge blow in Villa's ambition of having a successful season this year.
