Monchi wants to sign PSG forward he thinks 'could explode' for Aston Villa

Aston Villa's struggles in the final third have been well-documented so far this season.

The fact that Villa have not scored a single goal is perhaps more concerning than the fact that they sit on just two points from their opening four Premier League matches.

Morgan Rogers' form is an area of concern for Unai Emery and Co., who will be wondering how they can get the England international back to his best in a Villa shirt.

Harvey Elliott is an attacking player who joined Villa in the summer, but reports suggest that Monchi already has further reinforcements lined up.

Aston Villa interested in Kang-in Lee

Alongside Elliott, Jadon Sancho joined Villa on deadline day, and Emery will be hoping that once the pair are integrated into the starting XI, they can help remedy their attacking woes.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes on 15 September, Monchi has identified Paris Saint-Germain attacker Lee as a potential target for Villa.

The 24-year-old South Korean can play as either a number eight or out on the right wing and would be a quality addition to Emery's side.

Lee has been mainly used as a rotation option during his time in the French capital, and despite impressing when he has played, he has never been able to fully establish himself as a regular starter.

  • Out of Lee's 30 Ligue 1 appearances last season, 19 were starts
  • Lee managed to record six goals and six assists despite averaging just 56 minutes per game
  • The South Korean joined PSG back in 2023 from Mallorca

The same reports suggest that Monchi is confident Lee "can explode" in Birmingham and, under Emery's management, the player could develop even further.

Villa must find a way to spend in January

Villa's lack of spending over the summer has led to criticisms of NSWE by Richard Keys, who feels the ownership is purposely holding back in the market.

Villa's poor start to the season has showcased the need for more investment already in they want to kick on again under Emery.

It is not reasonable to expect the Spanish manager to work his magic again this season and get Villa back into Europe, given some of the signings that were made in the summer.

Signing Lee in January, however, would be the type of ambitious move that the Villans need to sanction to catch up to their direct rivals.
