Aston Villa are in hot pursuit of Sevilla centre-back Loïc Badé.

Diego Carlos is on the verge of joining Fenerbahçe [via Sercan Hamzaoğlu, 20 January]. Therefore, Villa need a new centre-back in the West Midlands.

As a result, Badé has been widely linked with a move to the club and has been backed to hit the ground running at Villa Park. As reported by FootMercato (20 January) Villa have submitted a transfer offer worth £21.1million for the centre-back, which was rejected by Sevilla as the Spanish club hold out for £25.3million.

And ex-Villa scout Bryan King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - thinks this is a player for the future.

"Villa will view this as a good bit of business," King said.

"Otherwise, what is the point of doing it? I think he is being brought in as cover for the central defence. He will then have four or five months to bed himself in if the deal goes through.

"Unai Emery feels, as do his recruitment staff, that this is a player who will improve the club in the future."

Aston Villa to sign Sevilla centre-back Loïc Badé?

Supporters might be frustrated to read that their first bid for Badé was rejected. However, Fabrizio Romano reported via X (20 January) that a deal is on with talks ongoing.

Therefore, that should provide some optimism that Villa can overcome any hurdles and agree on a deal, especially after a £30million boost in the West Midlands.

It has already been a busy winter transfer window for Emery's side. However, fans will hope the club's business isn't finished just yet.
