Aston Villa have been approached by Swansea City over the potential loan signing of Lamare Bogarde, according to Darren Witcoop.

The journalist reported on his X account (19 January) that the Championship side among others are interested in a temporary deal for Bogarde, who starred in his 53 minutes on the field in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Arsenal in the Premier League (18 January).

It was Bogarde's first appearance since 23 November for Unai Emery's side, as the 21-year-old remains a fringe player at Villa Park and could benefit from more experience elsewhere.

Witcoop posted: "Swansea have enquired about signing Aston Villa defender Lamare Bogarde on loan.

"Interest from elsewhere in the Dutchman and from overseas."

Aston Villa could loan out Lamare Bogarde this window

Aston Villa will be conscious of squad depth as they advance on three fronts this season, expecting to progress further in the Champions League alongside their Premier League and FA Cup exploits.

Emery is consequently understandably reluctant to dispense with too many first-teamers, though Bogarde's appearance at the Emirates was his first in nearly two months in claret and blue.

Bogarde will gain positive experience from a period away on loan as long as he is promised game time and can be nurtured, as the Dutch youth international clearly has talent.

The versatile defender first arrived at Villa Park in 2020 at the age of 16, benefitting from two separate loan spells with Bristol Rovers and now ready for regular action a step up the ladder.

The Villans head to Monaco in their penultimate league phase fixture in Europe on Tuesday night (21 January), before home games with West Ham United and Celtic round off the month.
