Aston Villa and Fenerbahce have reached an agreement over the £10.9million signing of Diego Carlos, according to Fotomac.

The Turkish outlet reported via X (18 January) that Carlos and both clubs have agreed a deal for the Brazilian to depart Villa Park, with the defender to be paid £3.4m per season by the SuperLig side.

Fenerbahce are one of several clubs with a long-standing interest in the 31-year-old in this window, and had been front-runners to sign Carlos despite a swap deal with Sevilla's Loic Bade being mooted. [VamosMiSevilla, 15 January].

Fotomac's report said: "Fenerbahce, who are in talks with Diego Carlos again, reached an agreement with both Aston Villa and the Brazilian player.

"The Canaries [have] reached an agreement with the player and his club for a transfer fee of £10.9million and an annual salary of £3.4m."

Diego Carlos on brink of inevitable Aston Villa exit

It's somewhat surprising that so many clubs across the continent have registered interest in Carlos given some of his below-par displays in claret and blue this term, but he remains an asset of some value.

Should Villa collect almost £11m having shelled out £26m for the Brazilian two and a half years ago, they'll still see the deal as good business and one which won't be harmful in terms of PSR guidelines.

Furthermore, such a fee will also allow the Lions to add further reinforcements in defence, having already strengthened their frontline this month in the form of Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.

Though Carlos is usually only given a run in the side when Ezri Konsa is either absent or covering for others at right-back, he'll still leave a central-defensive gap which will need filling before 3 February.

Unai Emery will undoubtedly be looking for an upgrade on Carlos at the back – otherwise he wouldn't be sanctioning an exit – with his troubled career at Villa Park looking set to come to an end.
