Aston Villa charging most of their fans £72.50 to watch the Premier League clash against Brighton has been slammed by Mark Halsey.

The former Premier League referee posted on X in response to The AVFC Faithful's reply to a screengrab displayed by Football Away Days, showing a breakdown of the pricing at Villa Park.

For the majority of Villans fans wanting to attend on Monday30 December, they'll have to pay £72.50, with those the cheapest tickets in the Doug Ellis and Trinity stands, and the Holte End's corner seats costing £55.

Branded "disgraceful" by The AVFC Faithful, Halsey replied with: "Absolutely agree".

Aston Villa ticket prices continue to squeeze fans at Villa Park

For all that the Villa Park faithful have experienced an almost boundless upward trajectory across recent years, that success has coincided with their club seemingly doing all they can to hike up prices.

The Villans' first-ever adventure in the modern Champions League – in which they've won four of their six games so far – has had some of the shine taken away by their continually extortionate ticket prices.

That attitude towards fans' wallets now seems to have translated to domestic action at arguably the most expensive time of year, with £72.50 tickets for a Monday-night match a stretch, to say the least.

It's little wonder, therefore, that there are so many tickets still available in Villa Park's three main stands just hours away from kick-off, with many supporters staying away having been priced out of attending.

The hierarchy will argue that given their precarious PSR position, increases are necessary, but a few extra thousand pounds per game is a drop in the ocean compared to the money spent on player wages and transfer fees every single season.
