Alan Shearer could only grimace after what he was shown live on Amazon Prime ahead of the RB Leipzig versus Aston Villa clash.

The Villans made the trip to Germany for Tuesday's (10 December) Champions League tie in high spirits after getting back to winning ways in the Premier League.

Unai Emery's men had seen their campaign stutter during a long winless run, which included a 1-0 loss at Club Brugge and 0-0 draw at home to Juventus in the Champions League.

However, Villa can still be more than happy with their position with after five rounds of league stage matches, sitting as they do in ninth place on 10 points.

That, according to Opta's supercomputer, has them on course to finish in the playoff rounds, which any supporter would have taken before a ball was kicked.

All focus is now on getting a positive result against Leipzig, against whom Emery has made a brave selection call.

Shearer was covering the game for Amazon Prime and, as shared on their official X account [10 December], he did not like something he was shown pre-match.

Fellow commentator Jon Champion showed Shearer a half-and-half scarf that had both Leipzig and Villa's crests on it.

In response, Shearer said: "Not for me. Half and half doesn't work."

Many supporters will agree entirely with Shearer's sentiment, although it would of course make for a good keepsake for those making the trip.

More important is that Emery's men get the job done on the field in what is another huge match.
